TPO honored Veterans

Every year, the Tennessee Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) honors Veterans. Some 500 people came to hear TPO perform under the leadership of Maestro Dan Allcott on Friday, November 9, 2019, and this is one of the most popular concerts throughout the season.

Music has always been used to honor, glorify and remember those who have served, and conductor Allcott and the TPO took the audience on a musical journey throughout modern history. “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” a famous song from the Civil War, is still used today, and there was music dating to World War I and World War II. Conductor Allcott pointed out that big band music was used as a balm and distraction against the ravages of the last world war. That may be one of the reason why some of the pieces are still well-known, especially among veterans.
