New name for local symphony

It’s official! Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra is now Tennessee Philharmonic Orchestra. The formal announcement was made at a press conference in Murfreesboro on Friday, September 13, 2019. The “new” name is in fact the original name of the orchestra. Jane McNulty, President, Board of Directors said the change will better reflect the organization’s growing reach to all parts of Middle Tennessee. “TPO” as it is often referred to will in the months and years ahead look to perform in other towns and cities in the region. At the press conference, McNulty also introduced Maestro Dan Allcott as the new permanent conductor of the orchestra. For the past three years the orchestra has had a number of guest conductors, among them Maestro Allcott. The organization decided earlier this summer to bring him on as the permanent conductor. TPO opens this season – the 38th season – with a concert September 26th. Theme for this year’s mainstage concert is “A Timeless Treasure” playing music “you didn’t know you knew.” Among the pieces to be performed in September are “Bugs Bunny’s Greatest Hits, “Summer” from The Four Seasons, “Morning” from Peer Gynt Suite and “Finale” from New World Symphony to name a few. For tickets and further details about this and other performances this season, visit our event page.
